The Bridge of the River Kwai

Spanning the Kwae Yai River, this iconic railway was built by Allied prisoners of war during World War II. Started in 1942, this 415 kilometers long bridge from Rachaburi to Myanmar claimed over 100,000 prisoners dying during its construction. A Commonwealth Graves Commission maintained cemetery close to the bridge now honors the bravery and sacrifice of these prisoners. It is worth a visit when your are in Thailand. It is located in Kanchanaburi Province of Thailand, about two and a half hours ride from Bangkok.
