Iloilo, Philippines

Looking for beautiful beaches? The central part of the Philippines boasts of beautiful beaches, some of these still undeveloped. One example is the town of Concepcion in Iloilo. The white beaches and the inviting waters offer some of the best snorkeling experiences. There are lots of corals and fish especially in some areas that are protected marine sanctuaries.

When you come to Iloilo, you don't only find beautiful beaches. Iloilo is one of the oldest cities in the Philippines. When you go there in February, the famous Jaro fiesta attracts home the old residents. At this time, the many old Spanish houses are once again alive in its quiet splendour.

Some of the old churches constructed during the Spanish times have been well preserved in so many of the towns in Iloilo. To mention a few, there is the famous Miag-ao Church, Molo, Cabatuan and several others.

People in Iloilo are also fun loving. It is located in Panay island, so named because when the Spaniards came, they saw it teeming with food. The rice fields produce abundantly and its waters pride itself as the fishing ground of the Philippines. So for the Spaniards, "Pan Hay" which means there is food.

So, next time you visit the Philippines, don't just stay in Manila. Fly to Iloilo. It is only an hour away.
